Defense Officials: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief Likely to Visit J&K Tomorrow
New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi are expected to visit several sensitive areas in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. According to sources, the Defense Minister may also meet with residents living near the Line of Control (LoC), where tensions have recently escalated due to cross-border attacks.
The visit follows a significant military operation—Operation Sindoor—carried out by the Indian Armed Forces, in which nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and across the border in Pakistan were destroyed. In retaliation, the Pakistani Army launched artillery shelling from across the LoC, deliberately targeting civilian areas. These attacks resulted in the loss of several innocent lives, including children, and left many others injured.
During their visit, both Rajnath Singh and General Dwivedi are likely to assess the situation on the ground by traveling to affected areas in both Jammu and Kashmir. They are expected to interact with local residents to express solidarity and understand their needs firsthand. This move is seen as a morale booster for both the border population and the armed forces deployed in the region.

Firm Response to Pakistan’s Shelling
Sources suggest that the Army Chief may also meet with senior military commanders and frontline troops stationed near the LoC. The Indian Army gave a strong and strategic response to Pakistan’s unprovoked shelling. In a calculated counterstrike, several Pakistani military posts were destroyed. In addition, multiple terrorist launch pads located near the LoC were targeted with artillery fire and effectively neutralized.
Terror Launch Pads Destroyed
After the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan came into effect in February 2021, Pakistan exploited the situation to strengthen its military positions along the LoC. It also reactivated several terrorist launch pads, using the ceasefire as a cover for infiltration attempts. However, the Indian Army remained alert and proactive.
In Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces not only dismantled Pakistan’s terror infrastructure but also weakened the morale of the Pakistani military. The swift and effective action forced Pakistan to initiate talks with India to de-escalate the situation. As a result of high-level military dialogue, both sides have agreed to halt cross-border firing and maintain peace along the LoC.
This upcoming visit by the Defense Minister and the Army Chief is expected to reaffirm India’s resolve to protect its borders, support its citizens, and maintain regional stability in the face of persistent threats.
