Trump Talks Ceasefire, Congress Targets Modi, Jaishankar

Congress slams PM Modi and S. Jaishankar for staying silent on Trump’s ceasefire claim after Operation Sindoor. Demands all-party meeting.

New Delhi: The Congress party has raised serious questions over why U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan through his social media platform, instead of the Indian leadership making such a statement. Congress is also questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the issue.

In response, Congress has announced that it will hold rallies in 10 to 15 states to ask the government tough questions and seek accountability.

Congress Demands All-Party Meeting, Special Parliament Session

Congress criticized what it calls the “politicizing” of Operation Sindoor, saying that matters of national security should not be used for political advantage. The party pointed out that while PM Modi is scheduled to meet with chief ministers from the NDA on the 25th, he has excluded chief ministers from non-NDA ruled states. Congress questioned why leaders from Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir are being left out.

Congress Targets the Government with Sharp Questions:

  • Why is PM Modi only holding meetings with NDA chief ministers? If this isn’t politicization, what is?
  • On one hand, Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are calling for unity, while on the other hand, PM Modi remains silent on critical national security issues.
  • Why is the Prime Minister avoiding all-party meetings, not responding to letters, not calling a special session of Parliament, and instead organizing meetings only with NDA leaders and holding political rallies?
  • Congress strongly condemned this approach and said such politicization of security matters is unprecedented. The real issues are being ignored while national security is being used for political gain.

What is the fault of non-NDA chief ministers?

Reiterating their point, Congress said that excluding non-NDA chief ministers from consultations is wrong. If the government is truly serious about national unity, it should involve all states, regardless of the party in power. The question remains: What fault did the chief ministers of Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir commit to be excluded?

Congress Stands Firm with the Armed Forces

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh clarified that the party stands rock-solid with India’s armed forces. Congress fully supports India’s action against terrorism and Pakistan. However, the party insisted that national security matters require unity, not division.

Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have also written to the Prime Minister, requesting a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Congress emphasized that in both of the previous all-party meetings, PM Modi was absent. They called on him to step up and show leadership by directly engaging with all political leaders and the public on issues of national importance.
